Alert 1-30-07                          One to Oppose, One to Support

SB951             oppose!

Please speak out in opposition to SB951 as it is currently written.  This is a bill which addresses adoption of animals to those living in other jurisdictions (it’s a little more than that, but the gist of it is where the animal is in custody, and where the adopter lives).  The concern is that the 30-day requirement for having an animal sterilized after adoption will be very difficult to enforce at a distance.  As it is now, follow-up on adopted animals even locally is difficult to do, and having adopted animals far away makes enforcement virtually impossible.  This creates a situation where spay/neuter compliance is extremely difficult, and sets up a situation which can increase breeding.

Please write in opposition to this bill, and oppose it in its current form.

There is the possibility of a re-write, but that language has yet to be put to paper, so we need to deal with what is at hand.

Should there be a re-write which we think should be supported, we will let you know.

Get your messages out today if you can.

This bill will be heard on Monday, 2/5/07, by the full Senate Ag Committee.  By now you know exactly how to reach all the right people, but focus first on those who are members of the Senate Ag Committee.

HB2295          support! – our rabies surcharge bill

We will be in Richmond in the morning (8:30) for this bill.  We hope many of you join us.

Thanks to so many of you have made the trip to Richmond, and to so many of you who have contacted legislators about bills that are important to you.  Great work!
