Alert 8/30/08   What You Can Do about Abandoned Hunting Dogs

You know the issues regarding the tragic and avoidable problem of abandoned hunting dogs.

DGIF (Virginia’s Department of Game and Inland Fisheries) is conducting a study regarding hunting with hounds in Virginia, and as the study is almost complete, there are final meetings being held around the state seeking public input.

You can get information by using this: www.dgif.virginia.gov/houndhunting.

When you get there, click on:  Public Comment Period Information

This heading (Public Comment Period Information) addresses public meetings at which public input is invited. The meetings have already started; listed below are those still to take place. Please, if you are concerned about hunting with hounds and abandoned hunting dogs, get to the meeting closest to you and let others around the state know as well!!

Your focus:

Your focus could be abandonment, property rights, animal control expenses, and the very low compliance rates for purchasing dog licenses, or whatever you feel merits the attention of this study group.

Oral comments:

Each individual will have three minutes to make an oral comment.

Written comments:

If you can’t attend, then written comments may be your next best option. Written comments can be prepared and sent.
