Alert 8/22/07 Make Vick Pay

CROSS POST WIDELY

Michael Vick is a poster child for the entire professional athletic community and what happens to him should be appropriate to him, the community of which he is a part, and most importantly of all, to the circumstances.

Mr. Vick denied his involvement in dogfighting and hid behind his celebrity and his race to get off the hook. Neither reflects credibly on him, and instead adds to his discredit.

There are large costs involved in what Mr. Vick has done - costs of enforcement, for custody of the dogs, and to bring the case and prepare its prosecution. Mr. Vick should be held responsible for each one of these expenses.

And let’s not forget this is about more than money. If he can’t or won’t help clean up the horror by naming names, Mr. Vick’s jail time should reflect both the severity of his crimes and the pos-turing he did initially.

If you write letters to Judge Hudson, your letters need to be the written equivalent of wearing black and acting dignified in order not to dishonor the animals or yourselves. This requiem for the fighting dogs continues.

In addition, contact your current Commonwealth Attorney and any candidates for that office in your jurisdiction. Make sure they understand you want stronger laws and certainly far more ef-fective enforcement of existing laws, and if they want your vote, they will need to commit pub-licly to doing this.
