Alert 7/22/07                Anti-Dogfighting Rally on Thursday, July 26

There will be an anti-dogfighting rally on Thursday, 7/26/07, in Richmond, at the place and time Michael Vick will make his initial court appearance.

More details will follow.  These are the plans at this time:

1.   This is open to anyone who wants to join – the more, the better.  It is not only for our group or those affiliated with us.

2.   We will meet near 3 pm.

3.   A meeting place will be announced.  It is likely to be near 10th and Main in downtown Richmond.

The group will then walk to the courthouse area.

4.   There are several people working on ideas to identify and unify our group.  At this time, we are suggesting that people wear black, dressed seriously and business-like.  This is, after all, most likely the only funeral or remembrance the fighting dogs of Surry County will have.

There may also be armbands or other identifying items.

5.   We will probably have one or two photos that illustrate the horror of dogfighting, but we will not overdo this for fear that our audience would be turned off.

6.   We want NO dogs brought to this event.  We need nothing to distract from what is already an incredibly tragic and somber event.

7.   Because we have heard from several members of Virginia’s General Assembly who are horrified at the dogfighting, we will ask every member of the General Assembly to join us on Thursday either by attending or by expressing their support publicly in some other way.

8.  Sharon Cornett and Lisa Compton are coordinating arrangements.  We would like to have an idea of those planning on coming; it doesn’t need to be exact, but should we be able to get some identifying scarves or pins, it would help if we had a rough count of potential turnout.

If you will come, please send a brief email to us saying you (and how many others) will come to the Thursday rally.

9.   More will follow, but it may not be until Tuesday that the next alert comes out.
