Plans For Regional Legislative Updates

To prepare for the 2009 session of Virginia’s General Assembly

2008 was a very good year legislatively for Virginia’s animals, and it was successful because so many groups and individuals worked together to make things happen.

We need to get moving now so 2009 can be successful as well.

To that end, Regional Legislative Updates, coordinated by the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies, Virginia Animal Control Association and Virginians for Animal Welfare, will be held across VA to offer a recap of the 2008 bills and ask for input for 2009.

Meetings will be held on Sundays for the most part. Where a Saturday works best for the sponsoring groups, the meeting is on Saturday. All meetings will run from 11 am to 1 pm. Specific topics will be addressed at each meeting (see agenda below). Should the presenter not be able to attend all meetings, a video of their remarks will be shown instead.

Currently, joint meetings are scheduled in Culpeper, Tidewater, Charlottesville, NoVA, Halifax County, Winchester and Richmond. We would like to also have meetings in Fredericksburg, Roanoke and Southwest VA (Tazewell? Wythe?) but have no host for those locations. If you live in those areas and are interested in hosting, please let us know. Otherwise, please stand by for further announcements about specific dates/locations, and do plan to join us!
