Alert 4/30/08 Tornado Hits:Our Friends in Suffolk Need Us

 

On Monday, 4/28, a tornado hit the Suffolk area. There is much needed including help for animals.

 

1. Suffolk Humane Society

One of the places fostering cats was destroyed; cats and kittens are missing.

 

2. Virginia Beach SPCA

The Virginia Beach SPCA (www.vbspca.com) has sent their disaster team to Suffolk. Go to the Virginia Beach SPCA site and see the emergency information there for Suffolk residents.

VBSPCA is working in partnership with Suffolk Animal Control to provide the following:

 

Hotline info for missing/found animals: Suffolk dispatch at 757-923-2350

Temp staging ground located at Suffolk Animal Control 124 Forrest Glen Drive, Suffolk, VA  60 cages

Emergency trailer to be collocated with/

HSUS forms missing/found animals

Temp housing at animal control

Temp collection site for missing/found animals

Providing 24 trained staffing

All animals will be “microchip” scanned

 

Reports of no large livestock issues at this time although there are many pets running at large

 

 

3. If you live nearby:

 

a. contact the Humane Society (757-374-1476) and offer your help; or

 

b. contact Suffolk Animal Control (757-514-7855) and offer your help; or

 

c. offer to take an animal temporarily – or permanently!
