Alert   4/17/08   Dogfighting Trial Tomorrow & Junior Horton

Fluvanna County - dogfighting

Tomorrow Joseph Wood will be tried by jury in Palmyra (Fluvanna County) on dogfighting charges. The trial starts at 9:30 am at the Fluvanna County Circuit Court. Please attend. Everyone opposes dogfighting and your attendance will demonstrate this. The more that Commonwealth Attorneys and Judges realize Virginians are serious about stopping animal fighting, the more incentivized they will be to prosecute and eliminate it.

It is time for you to take this step and speak out against animal fighting by your presence.

At a minimum, please let the Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Francis Terwilliger, know you want the law enforced and animal fighting stopped.

Junior Horton – Carroll County

Just as important is the case against Junior Horton in Carroll County. This is the man who had a license to keep 500 dogs, had over 1000, and kept those dogs in conditions that were so bad that charges of animal cruelty have been filed. Charges accuse Horton of depriving dogs of necessary food, drink, shelter or emergency veterinary treatment, and of failure to adequately house, feed, water, exercise or care for animals in his possession.

This case was to go to trial tomorrow (4/18/08), but it has been continued once again.

We understand that Mr. Horton is in business even while his case is delayed. Please ask the Commonwealth Attorney to find a way to have Mr. Horton enjoined from doing business until the trial is over.

The Commonwealth Attorney is Gregory Goad.

His phone: 276-728-7082

His fax: 276-728-5111

Thank you.
