We need you at the Carroll County General District Court tomorrow, Tuesday, 12/2/08, at 1:15.

This hearing is open to the public. All you need to do is sit quietly in the court room (no signs, no badges, no talking) and be a citizen watching the wheels of justice turn.

Note that this is the same county – Carroll County – that brought us the Junior Horton operation. Now there is this.

Some background:

David Winesett, a former animal control officer in Carroll County from 1979 to 1989, had 63 dogs seized from his puppy-mill type operation in Hillsville, VA, in Carroll County on Thursday, 11/13/08.

Virginia State Police seized the 63 dogs in conditions described as “deplorable” on that date after consulting with Dr. Dana Miller, a veterinarian from the Office of the State Vet.

All 63 dogs were taken to Angels of Assisi in Roanoke.

Pursuant to Virginia law, a civil impoundment hearing will be held to determine if the animals were neglected or treated cruelly, and to determine the custody of the animals.

Representing the Commonwealth of Virginia in this action are attorneys from the Office of the Attorney General. Please consider letting the Attorney General of Virginia, Robert McDonnell, know you are grateful that his office is involved. His contact information:

Note that no charges have been placed against Mr. Winesett at this time although it is rumored he is trying to engage Del. Terry Kilgore as his attorney.
