2006 Legislation and Meetings

The 2006 session of Virginia’s General Assembly will convene in Richmond in early January.

We have a great deal to do before that happens.

1. Attached is the preliminary 2006 VVAW legislation.

2. Please look it over.
Please discuss it at the next Board meeting of your group.
Please tell us what you think – call, email – whatever works best.
We need to know that you will support any – and ideally all – of it, and will work with your legislators to introduce these bills, and to get them passed.

3. If you think it would be useful to have meetings around the state, Don and I are willing to make those trips IF there are at least 10 people pledged to attend a specific meeting.

Here are potential meeting dates and locations. If you can get a group of at least 10 together, we will come, we will get a meeting room, and we will talk with you.

Fairfax Friday 10/28/05 5pm – 7 pm
Roanoke Saturday 10/29/05 11am – 1pm
Fredericksburg Sunday 10/30/05 11am – 1pm
Harrisonburg Friday 11/4/05 5pm – 7pm
Norfolk Saturday 11/5/05 11am – 1pm
Richmond Sunday 11/6/05 11am – 1pm

4. We want more support from humane societies, SPCAs, and rescue groups across the state. To encourage these groups to become more actively involved in the support of VVAW initiatives, we will be sending an additional letter to this effect to those groups.

5. Under any circumstances, there will be a “VVAW Legislative Kick-off” meeting to be held on Saturday, 11/12/05, from 11am to 1pm in Richmond. We want everyone to come to this meeting. Location to be announced.

Thank you.
