Alert 1/29/08     Court Watch for January, 2008 - Updated

On 1/3/08, we sent out the January schedule for Court Watch. That alert is posted on our website: www.VirginiaVotersForAnimalWelfare.com See the blue side bar there, and in that bar, click on 2008 Alerts.

Since that alert, much has happened. Maureen Federico, the Editor of Court Watch, was hospitalized but is now back home catching up on many cases. And the General Assembly convened on January 9, bringing a new definition to the word “urgent”.

In a word, we are behind.

Here are new cases to add to the January schedule:

1/30/08   10 am     Loudoun County General District Court

         Donald Cutshaw, Defendant

hearing to determine custody of 48 horses

1/31/08   2 pm     Chesapeake General District Court

         Lynda Howck (AKA Houck), Defendant

nine counts of failure to provide adequate shelter, space, food, water, and rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats; one count of cruelty for failure to provide emergency medical care for a cat

We have limited additional information on these cases.

If you plan to attend, consider letting the Commonwealth Attorney who is prosecuting the case know you will be there.

And if you plan to attend, confirm the day before that the case will move forward at the time and date shown. Things often change at the last minute. (Both of these cases were confirmed as of 11 am, 1/29/08.)

Thank you.

Lillian Clancy, Don Marro and Maureen Federico
